Seungchul Seo (徐 勝徹 / そ すんちょる / 서 승철) is an executive management professional with diverse international experience in private, nonprofit and public sectors.
Seungchul began his professional career in the international nonprofit sector, working for UNESCO in Korea and the International Red Cross in Fiji and Myanmar, before joining Bain and Company as a business consultant in Tokyo and Chicago. Passionate about promoting strategic, results-oriented approach and harnessing business management techniques to produce social benefits, he has recently worked in various capacities for the Bridgespan Group, Center for What Works, Urwego Opportunity Bank of Rwanda, and African Agricultural Capital. He co-founded and serves as an external director of Kaien, a social enterprise in Japan whose mission is to change the perception of autism by demonstrating that people with autism have unique and valuable attributes that can add significant value to the workplace.
Seungchul’s main area of interest lies in the creation of effective institutional infrastructures that accelerate social innovations and international development. His recent focus has been on the creation of a social capital market ecosystem, especially in developing country contexts, and the development of a "prosperative" venture capital business model that addresses the financial and human capital needs of small and medium enterprises. Currently based in Tokyo, Japan, he is involved in the development of the Impact Investment Exchange Asia (IIX) as an external consultant.
Seungchul earned an MBA degree with majors in Social Enterprise and Entrepreneurship from the Kellogg School of Management at the Northwestern University. He also holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Waseda University.
